In light of the surge of great bands that sound like they came from the 60’s and 70’s (think Fleet foxes, My Morning Jacket and Kings of Leon), here comes Dr. Dog.
Though Fate is not a brand new album since it came out during 2008, that shouldn’t be reason enough for you to not give this great retro rock album a listen. If you happen to hear a hint of Beatles in their sound, well it’s true, though they have a lot of other tricks reminding me of some other great indie bands I’ll leave you to identify by yourself.
From start to finish, the album is solid and fun to listen to. Musicianship is solid on all fronts, lyrics are occasionally brilliant though form the five times I’ve heard nothing that has made me nod in eternal gratitude. Sorry, you need to be monumentally solid for me to say something overwhelmingly positive of your lyrics and though these are good, and occasionally brilliant, they’re not eternal by any means, and I’m cool with that.
Tale special note of “The Ark”, “The Beach” for my favorite tracks and tell me you don’t listen to some Glen Hansard goodness echoing through the singer’s vocals.
This music is best listened to on the subway, in the car or anywhere you can pay attention to what’s being played. I could say more, but why waste your time. Pick this up, download it, share it, just friggin listen to it.
Enjoy
