I’m gonna get some cuz I need it

Simply put: now is the best time to be a Pearl Jam fan. Between the deluxe edition I’ll be writing about soon and the upcoming album, I just can’t think of a better moment to be a Pearl Jam fan especially since I’ve been a fan since just about the time I turned 12. But as I said, that’s another post.

For this post, let us focus on the unveiling of Get Some.

Ok lets get the bad out of the way. The audio started off shaky at best and never truly got spot on though it did eventually get better. Ok, that’s about all the bad I can find to say about last night.

Now for the good.

If you liked that Pearl Jam’s last album was a bit more raw and a return to roots, lo and behold, here is a song that sounds like an A side for Lost Dogs more surf rock oriented songs. One thing though, when I say surf rock, please take into account that I surf and that there are many types of songs I consider music to surf to. In the case of Get Some, this song is pretty much the song you want to have stuck in your head when you’re going balls out crazy and punting sections you’d normally shy away from.

That’s the power of Pearl Jam at least for a mark like me. True, to me they can do no wrong… I’ll even be kind enough to disregard the existence of heysexywhateverwasthenameofthelastsongofvitalogythatishorrible.

But even for a non Pearl Jam psychopath, you need to recognize that their music has gonads sprawling with more energy than any of the hundreds of sackless Teen Choice Award winning bands that make a million dollars thanks to twittering tweens that love Hannah Montana and think Twilight is life changing literature.

This band reminds me why I insist on buying and listening to albums rather than single tracks. They continue to march on with a proud TenClub flag flying high and giving its fans what they want. Real rock. Melodic, intense, passionate, inspirational music to rinse away the sour times we unfortunately have to gargle if we don’t have control over what we’re listening to.

Get Some is the type of single that World Wide Suicide almost was. Please don’t get me wrong, I love WWS, but Get Some is EXACTLY the song I was aching for even if I’m not totally sure why that is. Add to this one of the best album titles in ages and you have me frothing at the mouth like some rabid starving behemoth.

In a time when artistic permanence is as likely as a car company making it through the recession without a bail out, Pearl Jam shows that made in America is far from a punch line and that it stands for quite a lot.
