Jubilee es una banda de Rock n’ Roll de Los Ángeles, California. La empezó Aaron North (ex guitarrista de Icarus Line y Nine Inch Nails) con Michael Shuman (bajista de Wires On Fire y Queens Of The Stone Age). A diferencia de los proyectos con los que estos dos están asociados, la música de Jubilee no es oscura y nadie está eternamente decepcionado con la vida. Sin embargo, la distorsión sucia, el ruido, feedback y el estilo sloppy de tocar que siempre ha caracterizado a Aaron North está presente.

Hardly a whole two years have passed, and acoustic folk/indie rock trio The Dodos return with Time To Die. Their follow-up to Visiter, which came out in early 2008, is set for a physical release on September 15; August 31 in the UK. (Note to self: Huh, same day as a A Sunny Day in Glasgow’s, kickass!)
But wait! The Dodos are feeling quite generous, as they want you to “feel” their album already. I’m not kidding. If you go to timetodie.net, you can already stream their whole album to avoid those pesky early leaks. There’s also a nice message from Meric Long, basically explaining what I just said (and stating that “feeling the music thing”). The digital release of Time to Die comes out July 28th; July 27th in the UK).

UUUUH, the colors!
In September 15, Philadelphia ambient pop/shoegaze group A Sunny Day in Glasgow will self release Ashes Grammar, follow up to their accomplished debut album Scribble Music Comic Journal, through the formation of their own label titled Mis Ojos Discos.
When I interviewed ASDIG leader Ben Daniels back in 2007, there was a sense that he wanted to make something more immediate for a follow-up. Just by looking at that track list, it seems as if this album is going to be full of minor instrumental touches. That, or this is going to be something epic. We don’t get to see 22 track albums anymore, at least not like many alternative artists used to in the early/mid 90′s. Still, all that’s left is a little speculation. Maybe they didn’t feel a need to edit most of their material. For a debut that was quite diverse, and that said of a mostly electronic album, Ashes Grammar could very well be a reinvention of synthesized music once again.

Once again, welcome to “100 Words or Less”. This week, there’s a considerable amount of solid efforts. Curiously, it seems as if there’s an underlying theme: consistency amongst skilled musicians. Except for newcomers We Were Promised Jetpacks, the rest are works from veteran musicians.

Some bands just deliver miraculous work each and every time. With the Clientele, one of the most consistent groups in the business, it’s nature. “Bonfires on the Heath, their latest – and potentially last album – under label Merge, arrives in store shelves this October.
I Wonder Who we Are is quite majestic and upbeat, with thick musical progressions and a darker backbone colored around the edges. It is quite reminiscent of their 60′s pop psychedelia and classic rock influences with a modernistic approach, but then again, that’s what they’re known for. The song is also accompanied by classical piano, an impeccable horn section, and an abundance of acoustic flourishes. Seems like a win for their fans. Oh, and by the way, kudos for the sweet album artwork!

Después de mucho trabajo en la escuela (y no escribir una mierda) viene el trabajo de la vida real. Entre uno y el otro, ha habido numerosos viajes en tren. He aprovechado la situación para escuchar la discografía de Beck que alguien en algún momento me pasó a la computadora. He escuchado muchísimo su trabajo de principio a fin y me ha dejado completamente sediento de más. Por eso incié una búsqueda desesperada en YouTube en la que encontré esta interesante entrevista de Beck con un robot para cuando salió Mutatios en 1998.

Aunque todo el mundo sabe que soy fanático de Michael Jackson, no había escrito nada porque en verdad hay 1,302,399,888 blogs escribiendo de lo mismo. En lugar de redactar un post de porque Thriller es algo impresionante, lo estuve escuchando sin parar por tres días corridos. Y si, lo escuché completo, incluyendo las baladas como “The Lady In My Life” y “Someone In The Dark”.
¿Pero porque una foto de Michael con Ron Artest?

Antes se llamaban The PoPo, quitaron el “The” y se quedaron Popo. Estos tres hermanos de Philadelphia lanzaron un álbum a través de Buddyhead hace como dos años. Ahi usaban mas keyboards, la música era más upbeat y hasta rapeaban. Ahora sólo se quedaron con sus influencias punk rock de la vieja escuela, en especial el de California. Tambien por ahi tienen unas cuantas cosas medias garage rock de la década de los años 70. Tienen un estilo que aunque es muy influenciado por cosas del pasado, suena contemporaneo y un poco extraño. Ahora están bajo el sello discográfico Mad Decent de Diplo, el tipo que le hace remixes a media humanidad.

Lightning Bolt es una de las mejores bandas del mundo. En septiembre parece que viene su nuevo álbum. HOLY SHIT! En 2005 fue que salió su último full-length, así que se podría decir que es de los discos que mas estoy esperando este año.
